Srinagar, May 23: At a meet where renowned faces in the field of orthopedics from across the globe will exchange their views, the Annual Conference of North Zone Chapter of Indian Orthopaedic Association to be held in Srinagar, is expected to give a boost to this healthcare sector in Kashmir. Department of Orthopaedics SKIMS Medical College Bemina will host the 3-day event from May 31.
Apart from a 2-day conference to be held at SKICC, a live workshop on sophisticated orthopedic surgeries will precede the 32nd Annual Conference of North Zone Chapter of Indian Orthopaedic Association.
The event organizer Dr Naseer Ahmad Mir said: The conference will be preceded by pre-conference workshop on Shoulder Arthroscopy and live surgeries will be conducted and beamed from main operation theatre to SKIMS auditorium for young orthopaedic surgeons for learning this advanced technique at SKIMS.
He said the workshop would be followed by main conference at SKICC on June 1 and 2 where deliberations will be held in different sessions on advances in joint replacement surgeries, spine and paediatric orthopaedics, sports injuries, advances in management of trauma, orthopaedic oncology, reconstructive surgeries etc.
500 delegates comprising international and national faculty of repute from UK, Australia , Switzerland and Germany and from different parts of the country, are expected to attend the conference, a SKIMS handout said.
Prominent faces in the field of orthopaedics are a part of the host team. Prof SD Paljor, is the Organizing Chairman, while Dr Suhail Majid will head the Hospitality and Protocol. Dr Javed Bhat will manage the live workshop from the OT while the Scientific Committee will be headed by Dr Shabir Dhar.
The Director SKIMS Dr Showkat A Zargar has complimented the Department of Orthopaedics for hosting the conference.
Such programs are of great importance where reputed medical professionals get a chance to interact and deliberate on new medical practices and allow participants across to have issues addressed on a specific topic by recognized experts in the field who are abreast with latest developments in the field, Dr Zargar added.
